Would you like to hone your teaching practice, dive into pedagogical research, and explore careers in college teaching and teaching support? Graduate Consultants will work with CETL staff on teaching development programs for graduate students and benefit from extensive mentorship as they support peer instructors and work to become better teachers themselves.

The primary duties of this position include…

• Participating in a multi-day orientation for new consultants
• Meeting weekly with CETL staff for ongoing professional development
• Leading CETL’s semester-long Fundamentals of Teaching Learning Community
• Leading CETL’s Graduate Reading Group
• Co-facilitating teaching workshops for graduate students
• Conducting classroom observations and one-on-one consultations with graduate teachers
• Participating in regular meetings of CETL’s advisory board
• Judging applications for CETL’s Graduate Teaching Awards
• Serving as a CETL ambassador for your department
• Staying up to date on teaching and learning research

We are looking for graduate students who…

• Have at least one semester of experience as a TA or graduate instructor
• Are familiar with CETL programming
• Are committed to student-centered, inclusive, equity-focused teaching
• Are willing to serve at least one academic year as a Graduate Consultant

Preferred candidates will…

• Have multiple semesters of teaching or TA experience
• Be active participants in current CETL programming
• Be well-versed in student-centered, inclusive, equity-focused teaching practices
• Be willing to serve two years as a Graduate Consultant

• A list of programs or events you have participated in at CETL or other teaching centers

• A brief statement of support from the graduate program coordinator in your department

We are seeking students interested in a quarter-time or half-time 9-month assistantship. Depending upon the availability of funds, we may be able to hire more than one graduate assistant. The type of assistantship will depend on the professional goals of the student and agreements with departments. It is possible that the responsibilities of the assistantship may include teaching within the student’s home department or may be combined with a quarter-time teaching or instructor assistantship.
